A newly commissioned work by Katie West will feature in ‘Healing Practices’, a group show that begins with the question of healing and how we can heal. Exploring the relationship between past trauma and the body, representation and memorialisation, the show also presents new works by Duha Ali, Zaiba Khan, Stanislava Pinchuk and Justine Youssef.
Curated by Rachel Ciesla, ‘Healing Practices’ responds to the site of Bundoora Homestead as a space of domicile and restoration, examining artistic practices that use slow repetition or meditative practices as a way of thinking through trauma. The show brings generational issues of trauma within the historical context of the exhibition site – a psychiatric facility embedded in its colonial roots – and mental health into the contemporary context. Join Guest Speaker Kelly Gellatly, Director of the Ian Potter Museum of Art, for the opening next Saturday 16 March from 2-4PM.
