Thomas Weinberger global group show ‘Civilization: The Way We Live Now’

August 10, 2019

Thomas Weinberger features in the global group show ‘Civilization: The Way We Live Now’, a monumental photography exhibition featuring over 250 artworks by more than 120 photographers from Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. The exhibition focuses on the development of human life on a global scale in the 21st century, and the patterns of behaviour—collaboration and conflict, production and consumption—that now connect people to an unprecedented degree. Weinberger’s arresting image ‘Nr. 7’ features in the show, which uses a synthesis of day and night to create an unsettlingly detailed image, prompting viewers to question whether the architecture depicted even exists.

After opening in Seoul at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and in Beijing at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, ‘Civilization’ will be heading to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne on 13 September this year. Following that, the show will open at the Auckland Art Gallery in 2020 and then move to Europe in 2021.
