Lucas Davidson

Lucas Davidson is a Sydney-based artist who works with everyday tools such as digital cameras, computer software, and printers to explore the fluidity of the medium of photography. His works are often expanded into large scale installations that challenge photography’s traditional conventions and investigate the relationships between digital and physical experience. His practice is not confined to a single medium but to the fundamental elements that constitute a photograph such as light, space, time, paper, and process. Davidson’s ongoing interests lie in how digital imaging technologies enable us to see the world in new ways that continually redefine the way we perceive self and reality.

Davidson completed his Master of Fine Art at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney (2012). Recent solo exhibitions include: Learning to Let Go, Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney (2023); Living with Uncertainty, The Lock-Up, Newcastle (2020); Casual Forces, Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Maitland (2019); Social Construct, Installation Contemporary Carriageworks, Sydney (2018); I am a Strange Loop, Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney (2017); Animal Magnetism, Canberra; Contemporary Art Space, Canberra (2016); Habitual Loop, The SUBSTATION, Melbourne (2015); The Weight of Water, Linden New Art, Melbourne (2014).
