‘The Last Arborist’ was exhibited in the group show ‘Secret Garden’ at Dominik Mersch Gallery in 2020. In this video work, Lottie Consalvo grapples with the futility of attempting to reverse the inevitable. After Consalvo determinedly drags the dead tree through dense water and attempts to resurrect it, the trunk falls, depicting an inevitable impossibility and a dire warning of what can be lost when actions are left too little, too late.
Lottie is a Melbourne-born, Newcastle-based artist whose practice crosses abstract paintings, video and performance works. She has held solo shows at Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Heide Museum of Modern Art and Casula Powerhouse. She has also been extensively exhibited in regional galleries, most recently in Goulburn, Newcastle, and Lake Macquarie. Notably, she was selected to participate in a residency with Marina Abramovic for the 30th Kaldor Public Art Project in 2015.
