CLEMENS KRAUSS

‘Narcissus and his Echo’ was exhibited in the group show ‘Love’ at Tweed Regional Art Gallery in 2019. Krauss’ paintings teeter between abstraction and figuration through the use of thickly-applied oil paints and vast areas of negative space. His work taps into the vulnerabilities of the individual, looking with a deeply personal yet clinical gaze at social interactions. It is not by accident that Krauss has completed studies in both Fine Arts and Medicine, and that his practice crosses painting, video and psychoanalysis.

Works by Berlin-based Austrian artist Clemens Krauss have been exhibited extensively across the world, including in Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Stockholm, Vienna, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Cuba and most recently in Brazil at the Curitiba Biennial. In Australia, he has been awarded residencies at Artspace and the National Art School, and he held a remarkable presentation of work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales titled ‘Large Self Portrait’.
