‘Association’(From the series ‘2017-2021’) was exhibited in Clemens Krauss’ exhibition ‘2020’. ‘2020’ depicted fraught scenes that are invested with a sense of resilience – encapsulating the present moment of social seclusion, absence and anonymity. He says, “whatever will happen in the future, we are witnessing a turning point.” Working on paper with sparse but thick acrylic paint, Krauss records subtle and “brachial” observations that tap into psychological currents.
Krauss also describes his broader series ‘2017-2021’ as a way to “metabolise the present.” Each work is both retrospective and prospective, forming part of an ongoing personal critical diary.
Works by Berlin-based Austrian artist Clemens Krauss have been exhibited extensively across the world, including in Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Stockholm, Vienna, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Cuba and most recently in Brazil at the Curitiba Biennial. In Australia, he has been awarded residencies at Artspace and the National Art School, and held a remarkable presentation of work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales titled ‘Large Self Portrait’.
