Janet Laurence in ‘The McClelland Collection: 50 Years’

May 28, 2021

Janet Laurence’ ‘Forensic sublime (Crimes against the landscape series: Styx Forest)’ is currently on display at McClelland Gallery in an exhibition exploring how this significant collection has developed over its 50-year history.

In its 50-year history, McClelland has developed a significant collection of over 2600 works in all media through significant gifts, bequests and acquisition funds. The gallery’s focus has largely been on spatial practice in various forms – from sculpture and video, to photography, printmaking and painting. This exhibition surveys key works from the McClelland collection, which together offer a unique engagement with our environment, exploring diverse experiences of the natural, domestic, social, and conceptual spaces we inhabit.

The exhibition displays works by Augustine Dall’Ava, Richard Giblett, Stephen Haley, Inge King, Janet Laurence, Akio Makigawa, Fiona McMonagle, Sanné Mestrom, Ron Mueck, Patricia Piccinini, Ken Reinhard, Tim Silver, Kylie Stillman, Colin Suggett, Simon Terrill, George Tjungarrayi, Lisa Waup.
