Gary Deirmendjian public installations in ‘Countour 556’, Canberra

September 28, 2018

From 5 – 28 October 2018, Gary Deirmendjian will be presenting two site-specific public installation as part of Contour 556, a free public art event that showcases artworks and performances by 60 artists around Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra. Gary’s unnerving installation ‘reach’ places 60 rubber gloves just underneath the surface of the water and his highly sensitive installation ‘breach’ continues his exploration of how rope can subtly interact with the surrounding architecture and natural environment.

All artworks and performances in Contour 556 are site specific, drawing inspiration from or reflecting on the cultural or physical character of Canberra. The event reinforces the beauty of the designed landscape, and recognises landscapes hidden from view through design, opening up conversations about Australian political, cultural and physical history.
