Gary Deirmendjian moving image work ‘presence’ at Wynyard station

November 7, 2018

Gary Deirmendjian’s artwork ‘presence’ is airing again at Wynyard Station on the mezzanine level of the new Clarence Street entrance. Screening throughout November, you can see this major public art commission on the Wynscreen from 6AM – 3PM during odd-calendar days and 3PM – 12AM on even-calendar days. ‘presence’ is a suggestive counterweight to the rush and daily life of one of Australia’s busiest train stations, appearing to stretch deep into fog and well beyond the curved glazing of the screen. In this work, Gary presents commuters with an alternative ethereal realm populated by inhabitants that are at once familiar yet foreign.

Gary will also be realising a solo show at DMG this year titled ‘a prevailing sense of disquiet’, which opens on Thursday 29.11.18. Moving from public interventions to video works, sculptures, installations and photographs, this show will present thought-provoking portraits of humanity.
