VAULT New Art & Culture Magazine
While the online space and the ever-proliferating spread of art fairs has done much to truncate the tyranny of distance that haunts the international art world, those of us in the Southtern Hemisphere can be forgiven for still feeling a tad isolated in the wider scheme of things. Sydney's Dominik Mersch Gallery and Berlin's Galerie Patrick Ebensperger have come up with a simple, nonetheles astute means of truncating the tyranny of distance. Put bluntly, they've swapped galleries. In mid-July, the two opertaions effectively traded place for one full exhibition cycle, with Galerie Patrick Ebensperger showing four artists in Sydney and Dominik Merch showing a handful of represented artists in the German capital. The exhibition in Sydney features the reconsituted mechanical sculptures and readymades of Austrian artist David Moises, the sculptural and performace practice of Japanese Kei Takemura, the visceral, haunting paitntings of German artist Philip Grozinger and celebrated Hungarian artist Hajnal Nemeth. In Ebensperger's impressive space in Berlin - which is located in a former crematorium - Mersch is showing the likes of Jon Cattapan, Philip Wolfhagen, Tim Johnson, Lucas Davidson and Anton Pulvirenti. Both exhibitions ahow until August 16.

ISIDRO BLASCO is 'Artist of the Season' in ELLE DECOR
"Exploring the dynamics of perception, mix media creative Isidro Blasco combines architecture, photography and installations to express his optical reality. He sees a warped world, almost like a bird perched on the last ledge of the tallest building in town. Since past eight years, Isidro has been travelling around the world with his trusty camera.
A Doctorate in Architecture, he has a special love for structures that’s as evident as his peculiar take on perspective. “A picture is a flat representation of a 3D reality. So by manipulating it I envision a space that is neither 2D nor 3D…it’s somewhere in between,” he explains. The intentional distortion in his art is meant to bring us closer to understand the paradox of seeing and perceiving, while compressing a vast cityscape into a scene, that can be internalised in a mere glimpse."
