Tim Johnson - 'Presence'

09.06. - 11.07.2012

DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY shows for the second time, the works of Sydney based artist Tim Johnson. Often described as ‘floating worlds’, Tim Johnson’s powerful paintings are born out of a collaborative process and embrace spiritual iconography from a range of cultures. The exhibition titled ‘Presence’, comprises of recent paintings closely related to Johnson’s surrounding environment in Sydney. Using what Johnson refers to as ‘image scavenging’ the paintings fuse panoramic and layered imagery of local icons, landmarks, history, flora and fauna with Buddhist and Hindu iconography to create a virtual and imaginary world of his own narrative.

As a selected artist of the 18th Biennale of Sydney, works from this series will be exhibited at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art from 27 June – 16 September and at DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY from 9 June – 7 July 2012.
